BONUS EPISODE: Reclaiming Power: Storytelling, Movement & Healing with Donna Lyon of Left Write Hook

Trigger Warning: This episode contains discussions of child sexual abuse and gendered violence. Please take care while listening.

In this special bonus episode of Reflect, Reclaim & Liberate, I share an incredibly powerful and important conversation with Dr Donna Lyon—a producer, associate professor at the University of Melbourne, and survivor-advocate who is reshaping the conversation around trauma recovery.

Donna is the founder of Left Write Hook, a groundbreaking NFP that combines writing and boxing to support victim-survivors of child sexual abuse and gendered violence. Through her work, she is helping to reclaim narratives, foster healing, and build community.

With a PhD in creative practice and a background in filmmaking, Donna has dedicated her career to storytelling as a force for social change. Her award-winning documentary, Left Write Hook, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2024, sparking a national conversation about healing, agency, and resilience.

In this episode, we explore the power of creative expression in trauma recovery, the intersection of storytelling, movement, and community as a pathway to healing. And what it truly means to reclaim yourself after abuse.

And if you’re in Melbourne / Naarm, we’d love for you to join us at an exclusive screening of Left Write Hook on February 27th at Lido Cinemas, Hawthorn, Vic, at 6:20 PM.
